Sensei Shawn Aupperlee currently holds the rank of Shodan (first degree black belt) in the International Shotokan Karate Federation.
He has trained in multiple styles of karate spanning over fifteen years, earning his black belt in each discipline.
Shawn is also a decorated competitor and has competed in karate tournaments nationally, including the AAU Junior Olympic Games. After taking a break to attend college and begin his adulthood, Shawn returned to the martial arts at Granite Forest Dojo in July of 2017.
To begin his professional career Shawn worked with at-risk youth in the criminal justice system for nearly ten years. Unfulfilled in his personal life, he changed roles and is now currently working in the pharmaceutical industry as a program manager to support his wishes to start a family. Shawn married the apple of his eye, Nicole, in September of 2012 and his son, Nolan, was born in November of 2017.
The Aupperlee family has lived in Perkasie for over ten years and instantaneously fell head over heels in love with the town and community once they planted their roots. When he is not working or training, Shawn enjoys spending his time with his family in the great outdoors. You will find him either riding his bike, paddling his kayak, or simply traversing the trails by foot.
